Itinerary

Route: Chandigarh or Delhi → Shimla

Approximate distance: Chandigarh to Shimla: 115–120 km; Delhi to Shimla: 340–370 km

Approximate travel time: Chandigarh to Shimla: 3.5–5 hours; Delhi to Shimla: 7–9 hours, excluding extended stops

Begin your Himachal holiday with a scenic drive towards Shimla, one of North India's most beloved hill stations. Depending on your arrival airport or pickup point, your journey will begin from Chandigarh or Delhi and continue through the foothills of the Himalayas towards the picturesque capital of Himachal Pradesh.

As the road climbs, the scenery gradually changes from busy urban surroundings to winding mountain roads, forested hillsides and beautiful valleys. The journey offers a refreshing introduction to the landscapes that make Himachal Pradesh a favourite destination for mountain holidays.

On arrival in Shimla, proceed to your hotel and complete the check-in formalities. Take some time to relax after the journey and enjoy the cool mountain atmosphere.

In the evening, head towards Mall Road, Shimla's best-known shopping and leisure area. Take a leisurely walk past colonial-era buildings, cafés, restaurants, local shops and boutiques selling Himachali handicrafts, woollens and souvenirs. It is an excellent place to experience the town's lively atmosphere while enjoying views of the surrounding hills.

Continue towards The Ridge, a spacious open area in the heart of Shimla that offers panoramic views of the mountain ranges and serves as one of the town's most recognisable landmarks. The Ridge is particularly pleasant in the evening, when visitors gather to enjoy the scenery and explore the nearby heritage attractions.

After sightseeing, return to your hotel and enjoy a relaxing evening.

Day highlights

  • Scenic transfer from Chandigarh or Delhi to Shimla

  • Hotel check-in and relaxation

  • Evening walk along Mall Road

  • Explore The Ridge and its surrounding heritage area

  • Shopping, cafés and Himalayan views

Overnight stay: Shimla.

Route: Shimla → Narkanda / Banjar region → Jibhi

Approximate distance: 160–180 km, depending on the route and accommodation location

Estimated driving time: Approximately 5.5–7 hours, excluding extended stops

Morning: Breakfast and Departure for Jibhi

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel before checking out and beginning the drive towards Jibhi. Today, the journey takes you away from the busy hill-station environment of Shimla and into the quieter mountain landscapes of the Banjar region.

The route passes through winding Himalayan roads, forested hills, traditional settlements and scenic valleys. Depending on the selected route and road conditions, you may pass through the Narkanda region and other small mountain towns. There may be opportunities to stop for photographs or refreshments at suitable locations along the way.

Jibhi is known for its peaceful atmosphere, traditional wooden architecture, small cafés and natural surroundings. Unlike larger tourist destinations, it offers a slower pace of travel, making it particularly appealing to couples, families and travellers seeking a quiet mountain retreat.

Afternoon: Check-in at a Wooden Cottage or Riverside Stay

On arrival, check in to your selected wooden cottage, boutique hotel, homestay or riverside property. Accommodation in and around Jibhi ranges from simple village guesthouses to premium cottages with balconies, valley views and private outdoor spaces.

Take some time to settle in and enjoy the surroundings. Depending on your property's location, you may be able to see forested slopes, mountain ridges or a nearby stream from your balcony or garden.

Evening: Nature Walk and Riverside Relaxation

Spend the evening enjoying a gentle walk around the accessible village paths and natural surroundings. Listen to the sound of flowing water, observe traditional mountain homes and appreciate the quiet atmosphere that makes Jibhi a favourite among travellers seeking an offbeat Himachal experience.

If your accommodation has a suitable outdoor seating area, relax with a hot drink and enjoy the fresh mountain air. Some properties may offer bonfires or outdoor dining, subject to local conditions, permissions and the property's arrangements.

Enjoy dinner at your accommodation or a nearby café before settling in for the night.

Overnight stay in Jibhi.

Meals: Breakfast

Route: Jibhi local sightseeing → optional Jalori Pass / Serolsar Lake

Approximate local driving: Around 10–40 km, depending on the selected attractions

Morning: Explore Jibhi Waterfall

After breakfast, begin exploring Jibhi's natural attractions, starting with Jibhi Waterfall. Reached by a short walk through the village area, the waterfall is surrounded by greenery and wooded slopes, creating a peaceful setting for photography and a relaxed morning outing.

The path towards the waterfall may include steps, uneven surfaces and damp sections, so comfortable footwear is recommended. Take your time enjoying the surroundings and follow local guidance around the water.

Late Morning: Visit Mini Thailand

Continue to the natural rock formations commonly known as Mini Thailand, a popular local attraction associated with unusual rock structures and clear water in the surrounding stream area.

Enjoy the scenery and take photographs from safe, accessible viewpoints. The terrain can be uneven, and access conditions may change with water levels, weather and local restrictions. Avoid entering the water or climbing onto rocks where conditions are unsafe, and respect any access rules in place.

Afternoon: Optional Excursion to Jalori Pass and Serolsar Lake

For travellers who enjoy mountain landscapes and walking, an optional excursion to Jalori Pass can be added, subject to road access and weather conditions. The pass is known for its forested surroundings and panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges.

From Jalori Pass, experienced walkers may undertake the forest trail towards Serolsar Lake, a high-altitude lake associated with local religious traditions. The walk is commonly around 5 km each way, although conditions and route variations may affect the distance and time required.

The Serolsar Lake excursion is best suited to travellers comfortable with several hours of uphill and downhill walking. Carry drinking water, suitable footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. During winter, snow or ice may make the trail difficult or inaccessible; during the monsoon, rain and slippery surfaces can also affect safety.

If you prefer a relaxed holiday, skip the longer hike and return to Jibhi for a leisurely lunch, café visit or some time at your cottage.

Evening: Leisure at Your Cottage

Return to your accommodation and enjoy a quiet evening surrounded by mountain scenery. You can relax on the balcony, read, enjoy a hot drink or spend time with fellow travellers in a common sitting area.

Dinner and overnight stay in Jibhi.

Meals: Breakfast

Overnight stay: Jibhi

Route: Jibhi → Banjar / Gushaini region → Tirthan Valley

Approximate distance: Around 25–40 km, depending on your selected resort

Estimated driving time: Approximately 45–90 minutes, depending on the property and road conditions

Morning: Breakfast and Transfer to Tirthan Valley

Enjoy breakfast at your cottage before checking out and travelling towards Tirthan Valley. Although Jibhi and Tirthan are part of the wider Banjar region, the atmosphere can feel different as you move towards the quieter riverside settlements and the Great Himalayan National Park area.

The short drive passes through scenic mountain terrain, traditional villages, forested slopes and stretches of the Tirthan River. Depending on your chosen accommodation, you may stay around Gushaini, Nagini or another riverside settlement in the valley.

Afternoon: Check-in at a Riverside Resort

On arrival, check in to your riverside resort, cottage or nature-focused homestay. Many accommodations in Tirthan Valley are designed to help visitors enjoy the natural setting, with balconies, gardens, outdoor seating areas or views towards the river and mountains.

After check-in, take time to relax and enjoy the surroundings. The valley is particularly suited to travellers who prefer peaceful scenery, slow mornings and evenings spent listening to the sound of flowing water rather than busy nightlife.

Explore the Great Himalayan National Park Outskirts

Later, explore accessible areas around the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) landscape. The wider region is known for its rich biodiversity, forest trails, mountain streams and opportunities for guided nature experiences.

Depending on your accommodation location and available time, you may visit a nearby village, walk along an accessible trail or arrange a locally guided nature walk. Entry into protected park areas and longer treks may require permits, an authorised guide or advance planning, so these should be confirmed before departure.

Keep the outing flexible and avoid entering restricted forest areas without permission.

Optional Activity: Trout Fishing

Travellers interested in angling can enquire about trout fishing with authorised local operators. Fishing in the region is regulated, and permissions, seasons, designated stretches and applicable rules must be checked before arranging the activity. Do not assume fishing is permitted at every riverside property or along every stretch of the river.

Alternatively, enjoy a leisurely walk, sit by the river in a safe designated area or spend the afternoon relaxing at your resort.

Evening: Riverside Relaxation

Return to your accommodation and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Tirthan Valley. Depending on the property, you may be able to enjoy a garden, river-facing seating area or outdoor dining space. A bonfire may be available at some properties, subject to local rules and weather conditions.

Enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in Tirthan Valley.

Meals: Breakfast

Overnight stay: Tirthan Valley

Route: Tirthan Valley → Banjar / Aut region → Manali

Approximate distance: Around 100–120 km, depending on the starting point and route

Estimated driving time: Approximately 3–4.5 hours, excluding extended stops

Morning: Breakfast and Departure

Begin the day with breakfast at your riverside accommodation. Take a final look at the beautiful valley surroundings before checking out and beginning the journey to Manali.

The route travels through the mountain roads of the Kullu region, passing forested slopes, small villages, river valleys and scenic stretches of the Beas River corridor. The exact driving time depends on your starting point in Tirthan Valley, road conditions and traffic.

A short refreshment stop can be arranged en route, allowing you to enjoy the scenery without making the journey unnecessarily long.

Afternoon: Arrive in Manali and Check In

On reaching Manali, check in to your hotel and relax. After several days in quieter mountain destinations, Manali offers a more lively atmosphere with a wide range of cafés, restaurants, shopping areas and adventure excursions.

Take time to settle in and enjoy the hotel facilities before heading out for an easy evening.

Evening: Café Hopping and Mall Road

Spend the evening exploring Mall Road, one of Manali's principal shopping and leisure areas. Browse local shops selling woollen garments, handicrafts, souvenirs and other regional products.

You can also visit a café or bakery for refreshments. Manali has a broad choice of dining options, from traditional Himachali and Indian food to international-inspired menus and coffee shops.

If you prefer a quieter evening, enjoy dinner at your hotel and rest before the following day's excursion to Solang Valley.

Overnight stay in Manali.

Meals: Breakfast

Overnight stay: Manali

Route: Manali → Solang Valley → optional Atal Tunnel → optional Sissu → Manali

Approximate distance: Solang Valley: 13–15 km one way from central Manali; Atal Tunnel and Sissu excursions add distance

Approximate travel time: Solang Valley: 30–45 minutes one way; Atal Tunnel and Sissu excursion: approximately 3–5 hours of additional driving, depending on stops and road conditions

After breakfast, get ready for a memorable mountain excursion to Solang Valley, one of the most popular destinations near Manali for outdoor recreation and panoramic Himalayan views.

Surrounded by towering mountain slopes and wide-open scenery, Solang Valley offers a striking landscape in every season. During warmer months, visitors can enjoy green meadows and mountain viewpoints, while winter may bring snow-covered surroundings when weather conditions permit.

Spend time exploring the valley, admiring the scenery and taking photographs. Travellers seeking an adventurous experience can consider optional activities such as paragliding, ATV rides or seasonal snow recreation, depending on availability and local operating conditions.

Adventure activities are generally payable separately unless included in the confirmed package. Availability, age restrictions, weight limits and safety requirements vary by activity and operator. Snow activities are seasonal and should not be promised outside suitable conditions.

Optional Excursion to Atal Tunnel and Sissu

If road conditions, permits where applicable and the day's schedule allow, extend your excursion towards Atal Tunnel, an engineering landmark connecting the Manali side with the Lahaul Valley.

The drive provides a fascinating transition from the greener Kullu Valley to the more rugged and open landscapes of Lahaul. If time permits, continue towards Sissu, a picturesque village known for its mountain views and dramatic valley scenery.

The Sissu visit is optional and should be confirmed with your driver or tour operator before departure. Road restrictions, weather, traffic and local regulations may affect access and timings.

Return to Manali by evening and enjoy some well-earned relaxation at your hotel.
